Childhood is the right of every child. Kantiapada is a backward village of Patna block in the district of Keonjhar of Odisha. The population of this village 316 number of households consisting of more than 3000 population. The source of livelihood is basically cultivation and agriculture. This village basically consists of three types of caste community i.e., Mahanta, Naik & Munda. Most of the village dwellers are depending upon the traditional agricultural farming. The economic status of the villagers is too miserable comparing to other developed districts of Odisha. Most of children were debarred from the basic Right to Education and Right to Childhood.

Due to the intervention of PECUC and its dedication for child right protection majors, a Shishu Sabha was arranged uniting all the village children to make their village free of social exclusion. As an outcome of this efforts they are adopted an exclusion mapping of this village, in which it identified Mohan Sundar Naik aged 8 years S/o- Kamalakanta Naik and Lata Naik, who is a child with differently able HI & SI as excluded and dropped out from class -3 explored out. As an immediate impact, a meeting was conducted by the Sishu Sabha, and it was decided to counsel his Parents with the help of CPC committee members. CPC members also gave their consent about RTE Act in Odisha in context to the financial condition of his parents and it was decided that Mohan’s parents will get the grant from government and they were encouraged to send him to the school. Finally, Mohan’s parents got assisted with the pension scheme with repeated follow up to BDO and concerned officer. Now his parents are in high spirits to send Mohan to school without any hesitation and praising CPC and Child Club members for this support. Currently he is a regular student of class-3 who is attaining the child club regularly with his friends .He feels himself that “In the darkness of his life, the efforts of People’s Cultural Centre and Save the Children acted as a beam of faith, brightening to his life.”
