Pramila Pila, (Widow of Late Bansidhar Pila) aged about 65 years has a family of 2 sons (elder son PWD), 1 daughter-in-law, 1 grandson (aged 5 months) and 2 daughters (1 PWD) in Khalabadia village, one among the badly affected villages of Rasalpur GP in Bhogarai block of Balasore district. Her family has suffered terribly as the thatched house they live in was totally collapsed in the phailin. She along with her younger son used to do puffed rice (Mudhi) processing and door-to-door vending. Their raw rice got waste and they all along with the pregnant daughter-in-law have to be shifted to neighbor’s house.
Although she has a BPL card and is availing widow pension, with a total monthly income of mere Rs. 4000/- to Rs.5000/-, after arranging the bread and butter for a big family of 7 members, she is not in a position to repair the drowned house even if she has received Government compensation of Rs.5200/-. She is still living in neighbor’s house and cooking under the tarpaulin provided by PECUC. In the mean time PECUC with financial assistance from Help Age India, consortium partner of ECHO, provided relief items in 2 phases. Initially, a food and personal care kit comprising of rice, dal, flacked rice (Chuda), salt, sugar, spices powder, match box, bathing & washing soap, cooking oil, cooking utensils and then a relief kit comprising of 2 plastic sleeping mats, 2 woolen blankets, 1 tarpaulin and 1 solar rechargeable light.
Pramila with blinking wet eyes told that taking care of an expecting mother and 2 PWD wards in such a situation and now a new born baby is very much painful. She thanked PECUC as well as to Help Age India for the immediate and timely humanitarian response for which she was able to restore the business process.
