Age Care

Old age is a sensitive period when they need social, economic, emotional, moral and physical support. With the growing culture of nuclear family and lack of emotional attachment, old parents are neglected, exploited and often abandoned. PECUC is working for care and protection of the rights of the old persons and create an enabling environment fro them to live with dignity. A number of programmes and activities i.e sponsorship programme, promotion of self-help capacity and Alternative Sources for Help and Action - (ASHA) means hope - as an alternative model. 

Adopt a Grand Parent Programme

Sponsorship Programme ‘Adopt a Grand Parent” was started in the year 1998 with 50 needy older persons in Pahala panchayat of Balianta block of Khurda district. The programme was supported by Help Age International, Help Age India and Help the Age UK.  Now the programme is supported by individuals and corporate sponsors.   Sponsorship is made to meet the requirement of food, clothing, medical care, bedding, articles of personal use and pocket money. Apart from taking care of the basic needs of these older persons, efforts are made to sensitise the community and facilitate community based socio-economic rehabilitation of the older persons.


Alternative Sources for Help and Action (ASHA)is associations of the older persons formed to organize them, develop self help capacity and help them to secure economic security. Presently 24 no. of ASHA groups are formed with 324 no. of elderly persons above 55 years of age. Small groups consisting of 10 to 20 members are formed and provided hand holding support for different trades like palm leaf work, pottery, idol making, betel vine, weaving, carpentry, blacksmith
