Minati Dei lives at her father’s home since her marriage. Her husband accompanied her as house groom after their marriage. She is now working as a ward member at Royalpada Ward no-4, kakorudrapur GP. During her early days she worked as a daily laborer and also serving as a member of SHG (Self help group). With her increasing popularity, the village people insisted her to contest in the election. She also had the zeal in her heart to work for the people. Subsequently, she contested and won in the election by 482 votes. As she was new to politics she was unaware about her duties and responsibilities of a ward member. She regularly started attending the meetings and training programmes conducted by PECUC and THP and gradually she gained more clarity on her role and responsibility of being a ward member. She also attended many state and district level programmes. She is also a functional member of ALIBHA EWRs FEDERATION. She attends all the meetings and programmes of federation. There she discusses on all the common issues and problems of the people of her area and also takes suggestion from other members of the federation. Minati has helped two people to build their houses under the Indira Awas Yojana scheme. She helped 15 to 20 people to get pensions under various categories. She put forward her concerns at the GP meetings, related to the water issues that led to better water supply and the Panchayat recommended the repair work at earliest. She helped many villagers in getting job cards under the MGNREGA scheme. She also consulted the Sarapanch for the pond work in her village. The village ponds were renovated by her and an amount of 4 lakh was sanctioned for this. 25 laborers were engaged on a regular basis for this work and 90 work days were provided to the village workers that helped them to get daily wages. The innovation of the pond led to ample amount of fish production that partially supported the livelihood of the villagers.
Now she has proposed to Panchayat for making steps for the pond in the rest 70,000 rs. She is now functioning as the president of Gaan Kalyana Samiti (GKS). She also visits the local upper primary school regularly to ensure its smooth functioning. She is a regular visitor to Angan Wadi Centre (AWC). Previously the quality of food at the AWC and school was poor. The condition of the kitchen was also pitiable. After her recommendation the food quality is now better in both the AWC and school. She also provides medical assistance to people that involved two pregnant ladies who were taken to the hospital during their delivery.
Overall she can be termed as very hard working and sincere in fulfilling her duties and responsibilities. She is very thankful to PECUC and ALIBHA EWRs FEDERATION and says ”If PECUC and ALIBHA EWRs federation would not have existed then I would not have been able to continue my work’’. There are two more years to go prior to the next elections, hope she continues to do such good works for her people and set working standards for the next generation to come.
