Malliposi village comes under Mushakhori GP of Patna block. The village is surrounded by the deep and green lush forest cover. The people of the village mainly depend upon agriculture for their livelihood. Those have no scope for doing agriculture because of lack of land, work as daily labourers to maintain their family. People are mostly dependent upon forest for sustaining their livelihood. Different forest activities involves collecting kendu leaves, fruits, root mushroom, Sal leaves and stick (they are using the stick as tooth brush). As Keonjhar houses dry as well as wet deciduous forest trees, which produces high quality woods used for furniture, thus the people started felling trees in these areas. Looking at the situation, PECUC decided to promote Youth group in the project villages with an objective to preserve the natural resources to protect the environment as well as regenerate the forest through plantation, awareness and educating people about the importance of environmental protection.
Youth Network was formed in Malliposi village as part of the Project Integrating Program for eradicating Child Labour from May 2013. Currently, the total members in the youth group are 20 (Boys 14 and girls 6).
In Malliposi village, the youth group members decided to unitedly work for preserving the forest and regenerating it through reforestation of the local existing species. The movement started to take pace in 2014 January. They have planted 600 trees till 2016 May. After plantation they even took care of the plants as a result the plants started to grow. Simultaneously they also spread awareness and educated the community through awareness meetings, rally and observing different days related to protection of the environment and also restricted the community people from cutting down trees from the forest areas.
As a result of their continuous effort, all the people of the community joined hands with the youth group to preserve and regenerate the forest through plantation. From June 2016 till date, the community people along with the youth group planted 200 plants to regenerate forest and are also guarding the forests.
Now the forest looks green. It is a great achievement for the youth group. They are very happy for their success.
