Building Disaster Resilient Communities

A project for “Building Disaster Resilient Communities in the Flood Affected Districts of Orissa with a focus on Protection of Children in Emergencies” is under execution in 12 villages on Kendrapara Block in Kendrapara District and 18 villages of Bhograi Block in Balasore District of Odisha. The purpose of the project is to Create advanced disaster response mechanisms ensuring rescue, relief operation and reduces vulnerability”

Broad Actions

• Facilitation for the formation of children group and their meetings

• Capacity building of children groups on DRR and child protection

• Capacity building of Sisu Suraksha Samiti (Child Protection Committees)

• Mobilization of community and children on Child Protection in Emergencies

• Development of IEC materials related to child protection in emergency

• Design and dissemination of school safety plan

• Formation and strengthening of DRR task force

• Livelihood support to farm labourers.

• Wider consultation with Government and non-Government actors

• Media advocacy for public awareness on child protection in emergencies

• Process and good practice documentation and sharing with all stakeholders.
