Sustainable livelihood for FANI affected women in Balianta Block, Odisha

The project was implemented in 10 villages in 7 gram Panchayats of Balianta Block of Khordha district. The project directly targeted 288 women from 16 SHGs of agriculture and non-agriculture based business along with artisans to be the direct beneficiaries of the project. Bank accounts were opened for the 16 SHGs for savings and financial transactions for future. The 16 SHGs had elected president and secretary each for their respective groups.
16 Jibikasathis were selected as the livelihood voluntary for support service provided to the 16 producer groups.
Overal Objectives, Results and Activities
Objective 1: 288 women from 10 villages of Balianta Block, Khorda District
Strengthen their economic resilience.
Result 1- 288 women from marginalized communities in 10 villages improve their economic status
Activities:
- SHG groups are organized & strengthened
- Training to women – trade based skill enhancement
- SHG groups are supported to start/re-start income generation initiatives
- Market linkages formed between women producer groups and market
- Gender sensitization sessions with men
- Facilitating formation of a Producer Organization (PO)
- Jeevika Saathis are trained on entrepreneurship & marketing
- IInterface with government stakeholders
Objective 2: Women from the FANI affected villages regain their confidence and become psycho-socially strengthened and resilient
Result 2: In the 10 target villages, there is availability of a local support system for individual women or children to seek help/support from at times of crisis.
Activities:
- Regular meetings and evaluation of post-cyclone recovery through SHG groups
- Establish & strengthen resource/support group among women
- Provision for counseling/psycho-social support for women & children
Objective 3: Women living in 10 FANI affected villages equipped to respond to possible disaster event and lead/participate in post-disaster recovery.
Results 3: The communities of the 10 target villages have necessary information, plan and readiness to address possible disaster/crisis situations in future.
